“Best Quick Note Taking App”

When I’m in focus mode, I have thoughts. And with this app I can capture those brilliant ideas that won’t be ignored without taking my fingers off the keyboard. I press of a hotkey, type my thought, hit enter, and don’t even break rhythm. Type automatically adds a timestamp and saves the note in a markdown file. I add the entries to an existing note that becomes my running log (or brain dump, if you prefer). It makes a great quick-entry workflow for a text-based app like iA Writer (which I use) or Obsidian. I also like that this is an independent developer and a one-time purchase. I bought the app about an hour into the 7-day free trial.

Looks great, integrates with Obsidian (my use case) well, simple and does its job. Can be a real game-changer as a quick jotting down type tool in a knowledge management workflow.

Since I’ve been using Type, it’s become second nature to pull it up to jot down a quick note. It supports the creation and editing of multiple notes (which are helpfully stored as standard txt files locally, and also supports markdown) and recently has added support for the import of other .txt and markdown files. Super quick to pull up Type and take notes and quickly becomes second nature. Definitely recommended! ✨

I tried a lot of note taking apps — apps that slide out of the right side of your Mac's screen, Apple's own notes, and others. They all fail in one way or another. I therefore wasn't expecting much from this little app, but it turns out it's a perfect match for what I want to do with it. I set a shortcut I simply can't forget and as soon as I have something that I need to remember but that isn't important enough to start up Bear or DEVONthink Pro, I just hit that key combination and I can quickly type in what I want. I can type markdown and add new lines with an option-return. And when I need to come back to those notes, I have Panda to open the "notebook" from within Type and can take it from there. You can even have multiple "notebooks" if you wish. Very glad I found this!

“Does exactly what I need with no waste”

I love this app! It doesn't try to do All The Things, just an easily summoned UI to enter a quick note to a text file, and then it gets out of my way. Perfect!
